Records / Negotiation levers

Sell the records apart from the brand, or price them separately, because a brand buyer books the customer data at 0% to 20% of the lot

Public buyers' own purchase-price allocations of bankrupt retailers' brand-and-data lots put the customer data at a small share: Gymboree customer databases $3.0 million of $76.725 million (3.9%), Bed Bath & Beyond customer lists $3.8 million of $25.6 million (14.8%), Zulily customer lists $716,000 of $4.9 million (14.6%), Circuit City client lists $2.9 million of $14.5 million (20%), and buybuy BABY nothing at all of $7.1 million (all booked to trade names). Each was bought by a retailer that wanted the name and the shoppers, not the records as training data.
